S-Scripture: Genesis 43:23, “But he said, “Peace be with you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money.” Then he brought Simeon out to them.”
O-Observation: Joseph is in charge of all of Egypt. He is second in command. This is the second trip which Joseph’s brothers had made to Egypt to buy food. The first time they were there, Joseph questioned them and accused them of being spies. They were dumbfounded. They did not understand Joseph’s accusations, because they did not recognize Joseph. Joseph made them leave their brother, Simeon behind, to see if their hearts had truly been changed, plus, he wanted to see Benjamin, his younger brother. He told them if they came back to Egypt, they must bring Benjamin with them. Now, this is where this verse comes into play. Sometime during their journey back home, they noticed that all of their money was placed in the sacks. So, they thought God was punishing them for the crime which they had committed against Joseph. When they told Jacob all about it, Jacob made them take double money back to “the ruler”, Joseph. When they got back in Egypt they told Joseph the truth about the money. Joseph responded by saying, “Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks.”
A-Application: Isn’t God good? How many times have we done the right thing, or prayed for the right things, and God, our Father has blessed us…given us treasure in our sacks. When I do the right thing, God always blesses!
P-Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for filling my sacks with treasure. You are always, RIGHT ON TIME! You continually bless me, even when I do not communicate my “needs” and “wants” to You! Thank you Lord for all of my treasures, especially the treaure of salvation! In Jesus name. Amen!
